Black History Month - appeal
This year's Black History Month celebrations will showcase a number of exciting events throughout the UK
YOUMANITY is producing a video which will trace the arrival of the Caribbean community to Britain. The video will include a selection of original photographs depicting this important moment in history. To this end we would like appeal to our followers who may have such photographic material to please come forward.
We are particularly looking for images from the 50's, 60s and 70's. These can be photographs of family Christmases, gatherings, camaraderie and/or photographs conveying any kind of Afro-Caribbean community spirit, but not exclusively. Photographs portraying friendship between different groups are also particularly welcome.
The film will be narrated by a young speaker who will recount the time when her grandparents moved from Jamaica to London in the early 60’s and, indeed, how this cultural transition was for them back then. The narrative will conclude with a message of hope for future generations.
The speaker will say that she may have had a humble beginning, but today, like many other black leaders and personalities across the globe, she is an accomplished professional. A similar video produced by YOUMNITY commemorating the WW2 allied servicemen in the liberation of Europe. It can be seen here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G28qHQQAmZ8
If you would like to share your family photographs for this important project, please email one@youmaniy.today as soon as possible. The video will be premiered in October 2015 at the Palace of Westminster. Your photographs will be duly credited in the video.
